The past couple weeks have been pretty busy for me. After my uneventful Halloween I’ve been busy with coming up with my schedule for my last semester at Suffolk. It’s still so crazy to me every time I say or type that. My schedule looks pretty good with 4 classes on Tuesdays & Thursdays so that frees up Monday and Wednesday to work in the Admission Office to give tours!
I had a dry run presentation today for my Senior Capstone class. My Senior Capstone class is the one where it’s a semester long group project about a community health center in South Boston. The dry run went okay but 2 of my group members were in charge of making pie graphs which didn’t add up to 100% so that was not good but I probably should have caught that during our group meeting yesterday.
Other than that I am more than ready for Thanksgiving break. I’ll be back in CT (and working) in less than a week and then it’s back to school with presentations and papers. The first two week of December are going to be very busy for me with 3 presentations and a final paper. Yay senior year?
At least I have a month off from school so I can relax and earn some money to pay off my car (and trip to Disney!) and then it’ll be back to school for my last semester!
Enjoy the new layout
It seems like I haven’t blogged in forever! A lot has happened… well a lot and not a lot at the same time…
We had Open House on Saturday which was great! There is one day of the year that is guaranteed to rain from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm, and that is Open House day. I can’t even remember a time that I was more wet, I haven’t even ever been that wet in the shower! But it was one of those things where I decided in the beginning of the day that I was going to be wet and I was going to love it! And I do think Boston is magical in the rain, so I must admit that I did sincerely enjoy it to some degree. I was really surprised at the turnout and the general enthusiasm for the day. Although the weather could be described as dismal, prospective students and their families were excited to be on campus and to be learning about our programs. Usually people are miserable when they come for tours in the rain, but everyone was in a decent mood.
I was chosen to speak at the Welcomes– first in the C. Walsh Theater and then in the Donahue Cafe. The theater seats between 300 and 400 people, so I can honestly say that has been my biggest audience to date. I was really nervous beforehand, but everything went really well. I was very proud of myself. As cheesy as it sounds, I enjoy reaching out to students by sharing my experience with them. When I was going through my college search, talking to other students about their experiences was the most important decision factor for me. It is nice to be able to do that for others.
Thanksgiving is next week which seems unreal. I am always saying this, but I cannot believe how quickly the semester has flown by. I went window shopping the other day with my friend and we stopped in this Christmas store. Although I am so not ready for the holiday season yet, I must admit that I got really excited! A further confession, I had an eggnog latte the other day. It wasn’t even that cold out and it isn’t even Thanksgiving yet, but I really wanted one. It was delicious and definitely gave me some holiday cheer. I know it is ridiculous that I base my feelings about the changing of seasons on Starbucks’ seasonal beverages. But what can I say? There is nothing like a pumpkin spice latte in the fall or an eggnog latte in the winter or a flavored iced coffee in the summer… Yay! It’s almost winter break
In other news, I started running a couple months ago and recently decided to train for a marathon. I know what your thinking…I am absolutely insane. And I probably am. I w
as never a good runner, or a runner at all. But I decided to push myself and try to achieve this goal. Both my sister and brother have run marathons, so I figure if they can do it, so can I. I would love to run the Boston marathon, but I either have to qualify or get involved with a charity and raise 4,000 dollars. I am going to try to find a way to run Boston as a registered runner. If I can’t I am going to run the Providence marathon in May. I started slowly, running for a half hour around the esplanade, a beautiful little park around the Charels river…and I have recently upped my mileage to about 8-9 miles, which takes me about an hour to do. Only about 18 more miles to go
I will definately track my progress on here, and let you all know how I am making out, and how long it takes for me to want to quit. I have about 5 months to train, so hopefully I stay on track, especially with the holidays coming up. I found this blog, actually my mom sent it to me, about finding the will to run and the stuff that will keep you motivated. One of my favorite ideas is buying some new running stuff. This wi
ll make me excited to go out and run with some new gear. Going to get on that this weekend
I also just bought my winter ball dress! Tickets go on sale today! It is going to be at 60 state street, in the state room. This is one of my favorite Suffolk events, especially since I usually help out with decorating and/or planning for it.
Time to enter all those prospective students into the computer from this weekend!

¡Hasta Luego!
So I got Modern Warfare 2 for PS3. I absolutely loved the first game, so I was hoping that the second one would be better. Oh and it was. I just finished the single player campaign, and despite the controversy surrounding the first level, the game has an amazingly great story, though scary at times due to the nature of it. Without any spoilers, the story tells of war between the US and Russia with many levels on US soil. Seeing Washington DC destroyed was quite upsetting because in history the last war that took place on US soil was WWII, and that wasn’t even on the mainland. But all in all a great game and well worth the wait.
Just registered for my Spring 2010 classes. Only 3 semesters left at Suffolk! Ahhhh. Scary. I got the last spot in a couple of my classes, so I was pretty lucky to have a registration time at 8 am
Friday a bunch of us ambassador girls (and Andrew) got together and speaking of admissions, tomorrow there are info sessions all day and Saturday is open house! Register now if your interested in tours, info sessions, and every bit of Suffolk you would ever want to know!
This past weekend I went home. I was needing a break from the busy city, and I probably won’t see my family again til’ Thanksgiving, so I figured I would go home for the day, which turned into the weekend like it always seems to do. It is so hard to resist all that home cooked food. And plus is was gorgeous out and my sister convinced me to run outside in the park/ zoo near my house. (which turned into 7 miles!) On Saturday my mom, dad, sister, and I went on a 6 mile hike in the Blue Hills in Dedham, MA. It was way harder than I thought it would be, but the views wer
e worth it. Tour time for me!

This semester my business professor started a new club, the SUMC Business Club. He appointed me as the “marketing guy”, which means I am in charge of letting every one know what events we are planning to host. It is nice being in a club that is similar to a small company. We have a chairwomen and then other positions such as finance, trips organizers, business games staff…etc. This weekend we have put together a trip to Mahou (a Spanish brewery). I have to say I am proud of the job we did because that bus is full, with more people wanting to go. We will be going to see the second largest brewery in Europe. It is fully automated and one of the most ecologically friendly breweries. I am excited. Last week we invited a couple of guest speakers from the Instituto de Empresas (the best business school in Spain and the 5th in the world for Masters Programs). The lecture was a success and almost all business students attended it. Over the last couple of weeks we have been hosting a business product game, where students come up with a product and whoever has the best product wins a cash prize. To no one`s surprise that was a huge success and someone did indeed win. I really enjoy being part of the Business Club because we are doing things that really attract the students. It is not routine by any means and every new idea someone comes up with turns into a different experience for us to explore. So far the only thing that has been happening over and over again is Success and I hope it stays that way. I look forward to seeing what the SUMC Business Club will offer next. Let`s get down to business.

So I must admit that I’m fairly new at this whole blogging thing. I tried uploading these photos aligned left instead of center (the way I normally do it) and this post looks like a hot mess! And I’m not sure how to go about fixing it other than deleting all the pictures and starting from scratch. That seems like way too much effort… so I hope you enjoy the mess of pictures and I promise I will make it better next time!
I spent Halloween in Salem with my aunts. We did a corn maze the night before which was fun. I’ve never done one before. At first we thought it was too easy, but when we got royally lost I realized how creepy it is to be surrounded by dead stalks of corn at night with only one flashlight for five people. It is really nice that my aunts live in Salem because when we got tired of all the crazies on the street, we could go back to their apartment to hang out.
My costume this year was very lame– I just wasn’t feeling the excitement of dressing up this year. Although I’m from Maryland, I am through and through a Red Sox fan. For Halloween I wore a pink Orioles hat and my aunt’s sweatshirt and went as an O’s fan. I made a sign that said 2010 World Series Champs with the zeros in the 2010 the orange O’s logo. Lame, but it was easy and cost me no money. It’s funny because when I told my friends in Maryland what I was going to be, the reaction I mainly got was resentment that my costume was mocking. But when I told New Englanders that I was going to be an O’s fan, pretty much none of them got it. Most of them didn’t even realize I was talking about the Baltimore Orioles. It is so sad that Maryland sports are terrible– one day they will triumph
In the meantime, New Englanders will fail to understand the pain that MD goes through and I will continue to be a Red Sox and Celtics fan! Anyway, the best part of going to Salem is just looking at all the crazy costumes and decorations out there. People are so creative on Halloween, I love it!
On Tuesday the Program Council at Suffolk put on an event at the House of Blues on Landsdowne Street. Sean Kingston and Girl Talk performed just for Suffolk students. Tickets were only $15! It was a lot of fun. There were glow sticks and confetti and dancing. I didn’t know who Girl Talk was prior to going to the concert. He is this insane DJ who started off mixing music and was shortly thereafter discovered in New York City. He was nuts! And he had some really awesome (and I mean hilarious) dance moves. It was a good time– I saw a lot of ambassadors and my other friends there. I love going to these Suffolk events because there are so many people there who you know. It makes it all the more fun! I always love a good dance party
This past weekend was our annual Suffolk concert. In the past we have had Jason Mraz and Gym Class Heroes, but this was by far our biggest show/ venue. Sean Kingston and Girl talk performed at the House of Blues on Saturday night, and it was quite the show! Sean Kingston was good, playing all the songs we all know and love, but he only played for an hour. I think everyone was really there to see Girl Talk. I had never really heard of girl talk, but he mixes songs together to create a dance party with songs you would not normally consider “dancing material.” His show was amazing, besides the glow sticks hitting you in the head every 2 seconds; but this was cause to throw your hands up and join in on the fun. There were giant balloon balls, toilet paper being dispensed from a machine, students up on stage… it was just an absolute rager! I’ll show you what I mean with some pics other Suffolk students have taken…

So Girl Talk is coming to Suffolk tonight, well technically to the House of Blues, but regardless, I am very excited. My friend Stacy originally introduced me to Girl Talk and ever since then, I’ve loved his stuff. Girl Talk is the stage name of Gregg Gillis who is a DJ that mashes up to 60 song in a 3 minute track. The show starts today at 8 and I am skipping out of my IMBK class early to make sure to get there on time.
For a sample of his stuff, check out this link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A6jFrMPibaA
Yesterday, my mum called with great news. She bought me a plane ticket to Lisbon this coming Friday as a surprise. My sister who lives in Canada along with my other sister who lives in Geneva are both going to be in Lisbon for that weekend and my lovely sweet mother decided to ship me over there for a mini reunion. I am very excited that I get to see my sisters and mum. We are going to just relax, do little bit of bonding and have delicious heart warming mum made food. I am looking forward to seeing my friends whom I haven’t seen since June because they were away for the summer. Every time I go to Lisbon I have the hardest time switching from Spanish to Portuguese and just as I get used to it again, I find myself back in Madrid speaking Portoñol (Portuguese-Spanish). It is confusing but i am not complaining, I get to practice my Portuguese and test my Spanish. I love having something to look forward to. A trip to Lisbon is good fun anytime. A trip to see my Family tops any of my lists. The two combined is just PERFECT.
Happy November, everyone!
So, this weekend was Halloween. On Friday, I went home to babysit my brother while my parents had their annual Halloween Bash (they think they are 15). It was nice to spend some time with him and eat lots of leftovers from the party. I came back into the city on Saturday morning and went on a literary walking tour for extra credit for my American Realism class. It was a beautiful day for walking and I learned a lot! Now I just need to motivate myself to write a couple pages about it.
I spent the rest of Saturday catching up on my sleep and putting together my Halloween costume (I was an 80’s aerobics instructor!). For the most part, I think Halloween is overrated, but I was determined to have a good one since it is my senior year. Josh, one of my best friends from home, had a Halloween gathering at his apartment in Brighton and I went with Beckee and Sarah. We saw a lot of awesome costumes and overall had a really good time.
Yesterday was another low-key day for me. I have been running myself dry during the week and love being able to just sit around and do nothing. It certainly makes it hard to get back into the swing of things during the week, though. This week looks like it will be a good one, though. Tomorrow night, Program Council is hosting a Sean Kingston and Girl Talk concert at the House of Blues and tickets are only $15! I am really looking forward to it.
This weekend looks like it’s going to be pretty awesome, too. On Friday, Beckee is getting all the girl Ambassadors together at her apartment for a big slumber party. We had the idea weeks ago and I am so excited it is finally going to happen! There will be lots of food, truth or dare, and absolutely NO Ambassador boys!
Looks like there are a lot of exciting things happening this week! But for now, it’s time to get back to work in the office and get through this long Monday of classes!
November 2nd already. I cannot even believe it. only 3 weeks until my favorite holiday :), any excuse to eat massive amounts of food equals a great holiday in my book.
to consideration. As a junior, I register on the 10th, at 8 am online. Trying to plan all of this stuff out…
