IIDA Student Design Charette

The 3rd Annual IIDA Student Design Charette at NeoCon 2014 took place on Tuesday, June 10th. Featuring 10 teams, IIDA Student Members were faced with solving a design challenge within 6 hours, using only hand drafting and rendering. The teams then presented their design to a panel of judges that included Zurich Esposito, EVP of AIA Chicago; Scott Hierlinger, IIDA, LEED AP, ID+C; Tom Marquardt, Assoc IIDA, SBID; Felice Silverman, FIIDA, LEED AP, ID+C. Following their critique of the solutions, the judges selected the 1st and 2nd place winning teams.

MAIA Students Kim Boutwell and Mary Schambach were nominated by NESAD and participated in this year’s NeoCon event — Kim’s team won 2nd place!

Additional photos and information about the event can be found at the IIDA website.

Congrats to Kim and Mary on a job well done!

Blogging Days!

Salute to All of My Fellow Interior Designers!

I must say that this spring semester was challenging, but it was fun at last and we did it!  We finished another semester strong. Thanks so much to NESAD for giving me the opportunity to blog and revamp this site. Thanks also to Molly Akin and Jordan Cogswell for their endless support to help make this blog possible.  I will truly miss blogging here, but you can still find me at my other blog and around NESAD this summer.  Adios for now!

Last but not least, Congratulations to Class of 2012!

BFA Senior ID Students Visit The Big Apple

On April 13th, Adjunct Professor Kathi Vander Laan and Professor Nancy Hackett took a group of senior Interior Design students to New York City. The students visited both firms and showrooms, and experienced the High Line, a public park built on a historic elevated rail line in Manhattan. Thanks to Professor Kathi Vander Laan for setting up the tour, which included hospitality firm BBG-BBGM and the Gensler designed AllSteel showroom.

Kim Boutwell Featured in Stuff Magazine

In this month’s Stuff Magazine’s issue features one of NESAD’s interior design students, Kim Boutwell.  Kim has a very stylist taste that translates to her studio space really nicely where she shares with her significant other, Sean Frederick.  This chic studio that Kim designs is done with a limited budget and shows that all it takes it a “little creativity and an appreciation for timeless design.”

What is so great about this palette is that it is soothing, fun, and classic.  Also the different shapes, colors, and materials work so well together to create a beautiful space that makes this space both functional and aesthetically pleasing.  Congrats Kim!
