Second Section Open for 4-Week Revit Workshop
May 13th, 2009 by Douglas Seidler
Workshop description:
An introduction to Revit Architecture 2009, this workshop will explore the features and professional uses of Revit for the design studio and professional office. The four week workshop will focus on design and modeling techniques leading towards construction drawings. This workshop will also explore how Revit can interact with other architectural design software including AutoCAD and SketchUp. Students will develop a small design project together and a basic layout of construction drawings for that project.
Section 1: June 8- July 6, 2009

How to register:
Current Continuing Education (CE) students, Alumni and Adjunct Faculty can register through CE at 617-994-4235/4233.
Current BFA and MAID students need to register through the University Registrar at 617-573-8430.
Course objectives:
Throughout the workshop we will establish a comfort level with Revit, leading to independent use of the program. We will investigate Revit’s capabilities and uses in the design industry and the advantages of computer-aided design. Keep the following questions in mind as you work through this semester:
Drawing & Representation Objectives
- What are the similarities and differences between hand drafting, AutoCAD drafting, and drawing in Revit?
- How does editing an AutoCAD drawing compare to editing a Revit drawing?
- How do you plot Revit drawings? What are the requirements and limitations of getting your drawing out of the computer and onto the wall?
Construction Drawing Objectives
- What are the different drawings typically found in a set of construction drawings and what is the relationship between these drawings?
- How can Revit help you organize different drawings in a set of construction drawings?
- How do multiple users collaborate in Revit during the construction document phase?
Prerequisites:
Orthogonal Drawing (ADI S110/510 ) or equivalent knowledge AND Advanced Interior Design Communications (ADI S371/771) or equivalent knowledge. Students are expected to have intermediate knowledge of both AutoCAD and SketchUp. Students will be expected to bring a CAD floor plan from a previous project to begin building in Revit. Please keep CAD plans sizes to a minimum a residential or small commercial project is acceptable.
